Latif to be removed from cabinet, AL: PM


SYLHET : Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday said Abdul Latif Siddique will not only be removed from cabinet but also from Awami League for his comments on hajj, Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and Tabligh Jamaat, reports UNB.
”Latif Siddique will not only be removed from cabinet but also from Awami League,” she said, talking to Awami League leaders at Sylhet Osmani International Airport on way to Dhaka from London after attending the 69th UN General Assembly in New York.
AL organizing secretary advocate Misbah Uddin Siraj confirmed the remarks of the Prime Minister, saying that the decision will be made effective after the Prime Minister reached Dhaka.
Latif Siddique, at a reception arranged by expatriates from Tangail living in New York on Sunday evening, reportedly said he is against hajj and Tablig Jamaat.
According to video clips available on different websites ran by private TVs, he had said: “Hajj is just waste of manpower… those who perform hajj don’t have any productivity. They deduct from the economy, spends a lot of money abroad.”
A VVIP flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying Sheikh Hasina arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) at 10:40 am today (Thursday).
The Deputy Leader of Parliament, Advisers to the Prime Minister and high civil and military officials received the Prime Minister at the airport. Before arriving at HSIA, the Biman flight landed at Sylhet Osmani International Airport.
Earlier, the VVIP flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina departed Heathrow International Airport at 6:55 pm London time (11:55 pm BST). The Bangladesh High Commissioner to UK saw the Prime Minister off at the airport.
Hasina arrived in New York on September 22 to attend the 69th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). She addressed the UNGA on September 27 where, among other things, she sought support of the international community to the ongoing trial of war criminals in Bangladesh for the sake of justice, human rights and the rule of law.
